Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won 4-1 over the Sul Ross State Lobos on Thursday night at the HSU Soccer Complex in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowboys scored in the 18th minute after an Osi Gutierrez corner delivery was hit and deflected by Makenson Cadet before Nana Osei-Debrah found it for goal in the right corner for the 1-0 Cowboy lead.
Not a minute off the clock later, Jaden Barnwell volleyed a ball into the opposite side of the net for the second Cowboy goal thanks to a long throw from J.J. Sissen.
Gutierrez and Cadet had another go at it from a Cowboy corner in the 35th minute, and Nick Tudgay put a head on it to score making it 3-0 Cowboys at the half.
Austin Wills played a cross to Alejandro Lopez who scored in the 64th minute before Sul Ross got on the board with a shot and goal from Luis Gonzalez in the 71st, making it a 4-1 final for the HSU win.
The Cowboys had 17 shots with seven on goal while Sul Ross took 11 shots with three on the frame. The Cowboys led with 13 corner kicks to one.
Reid Applewhite had two saves starting in goal for the Cowboys. The Lobo keeper was Alexis Tellez who recorded three saves in the loss.
The Cowboys improve to 5-4-2 on the season and 4-0-2 in the ASC while Sul Ross falls to 3-6 and 0-5 in the conference. Be sure to be in attendance on Saturday night for the Cowboy Soccer Senior Night against Howard Payne beginning at 7:30 p.m.
