Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team defeated the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets in conference play on the Cowboy senior night on Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The Cowboy soccer team honored three seniors, Andrew Vasquez, Nick Tudgay, and Makenson Cadet. All three had great nights on the pitch to lead the winning Cowboys.
The Cowboys earned a penalty kick in the 29th minute, giving senior Cadet a chance to show off his stuff, who scored it in the bottom corner and added some nice dance moves with his team.
The Cadet show continued in the 62nd minute, with a ball from Austin Wills back post to a finishing Cadet, who cut the face of a defender to score his second goal.
The Cowboy energy was electric to follow, leading to a corner in the next minute that J.J. Sissen served to Osi Gutierrez, who flicked it to Alejandro Lopez for the goal in the back side of the net, capping off a resounding 3-0 win for the Cowboys on senior night.
The Cowboys had 21 shots with ten on goal in the match while Howard Payne put up seven shots with six on goal. The Cowboys led with an incredible 16 corners to two.
Reid Applewhite had a clean night at keeper for the Cowboys with five saves in the win. Eduardo Flores tallied six saves in the game for Howard Payne.
The Cowboys are now 6-4-2 and 5-0-2 in the ASC and will travel down to battle the Tornados of Concordia on Thursday night in Round Rock, kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
