Box Score ROUND ROCK, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team dropped a tough match to the Concordia Tornados 3-1 on Thursday night on the road in American Southwest Conference action.
Both the Tornados and the Cowboys entered the game at 5-0-2 in the ASC, tied at second place overall in the standings behind the 8-0 UMHB Cru.
The first half went quiet for scoring but Concordia opened the second with a goal in the 0th minute by Xavier Polk assisted by Melvin Molina and Antonio Rios to get the 1-0 lead.
The Tornados added to the lead with a solo goal from Marco Vazquez in the 72nd minute before the Cowboys got on the board thanks to a Jack Sissen goal to cut it to 2-1 Tornados with just over ten minutes to play.
Vazquez went for goal again in the 81st minute to ice the game 3-1 for Concordia, taking sole position of second place in the ASC.
The Cowboys led in shots with 15 and seven on goal while Concordia took 12, putting five on frame. The Cowboys led with ten corner kicks to three.
Reid Applewhite took goal for the Cowboys and had two saves in the loss. Joshua Redding started for the Tornados with five saves on the night.
The Cowboys drop to 6-5-2 and 5-1-2 in the ASC after tonight. Concordia improves to 8-3-3 and 6-0-2 in conference. The Cowboys will play the top-ranked Cru on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. in Belton.
