Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team defeated the defending ASC champion Ozarks Eagles on Tuesday night 3-2 with a walk-off win in double overtime.
Daniel Lyon got the Eagles up 1-0 in the eighth minute with a header goal off a corner from Harry Hilton to take the early lead. The Cowboys earned a free kick in the 34th minute which Osi Gutierrez hammered in for an equalizer goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Another Cowboy free kick was taken by Austin Wills in the 42nd minute. Gutierrez finessed a flick from the ball in to score a second goal for the Cowboys, taking the lead 2-1 at half.
Ozarks stormed back and got on the board once more in the 64th minute. After bouncing it around the offensive half, the Eagles' Kyle Seymour finished for goal after a Tapiwa Manhungo assist to tie the game at 2-2.
The game reached full time and went to overtime with a scoreless first ten-minute half. In the 104th minute, the Cowboys got a ball wide to Wills, who played it back post to Jakob Fiol who connected for goal, winning the game 3-2 in golden goal fashion, and sending the Cowboys to the ASC semifinal.
The teams were dead even with 12 shots each. Hardin-Simmons put four on frame while Ozarks had five on goal. The Cowboys led with 13 corners and the Eagles took nine on the night.
Reid Applewhite played in goal for HSU with three saves in all 104 minutes. The Eagles started Caleb Anderson at keeper.
The Cowboys improve to 8-6-2 on the season and will advance to play at UMHB against the Cru on Friday night at 5 p.m. in Belton for a chance to go to the ASC Championship game.
