JACKSON, Miss. – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team moved to 7-0 with a 77-52 win in American Southwest Conference action at Belhaven on Thursday night in Jackson, Miss.
HSU used a 16-2 run in the first quarter to open an 18-6 lead and never were threatened the rest of the way. HSU led 22-10 after the first quarter and pushed the lead out to 27-10 and led 36-23 at halftime.
It was more of the same in the third quarter as the Cowgirls pushed the lead to 56-38 after the third period. The Cowgirls continued to build on the lead and led 75-46.
HSU held the Blazers to 29 percent shooting in the game, including 0-for-12 from 3-point range. HSU also scored 27 points off of 27 Belhaven turnovers.
Four Cowgirls scored in double figures. Hallie Edmondson led the way with 13 points, Kiki Gonzales added 12 and Brittany Schnabel and Samantha Tatum scored 10 points each.
Xhir Burgess led Belhaven will 11 points and Nyah Davis added 10.
HSU is 7-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. Belhaven fell to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in ASC play. The No. 10 ranked Cowgirls will play at No. 9 East Texas Baptist on Saturday in Marshall at 1 p.m.
