Box Score WHEATON, Ill. – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Wheaton Ill. on Wednesday night playing in Illinois in the first competition of the 2021 season.
The Wheaton Thunder had the pressure early and came away with a goal in the fifth minute from Michael Martens. Wheaton would earn a penalty kick to score again in the 15th minute off the foot of Silas Galvao.
The Cowboys played a hard fought and physical game as always, leaving the field with 20 fouls against and collecting six yellow cards on the night.
The Cowboys had eight shots in the contest with five on frame. Wheaton shot 19 times only landing five on the mark as well. The Cowboys led with five corners over the Thunder four.
Reid Applewhite started in goal for HSU and recorded three saves in the season opener. Thunder keeper Hasten Biddlecomb collected five saves in the win.
HSU (0-1) will continue the road trip on Saturday facing Carthage beginning at 12 noon. The Cowboy soccer team will be on the road until its home opener on Thursday, September 30 at the HSU Soccer Complex.
