Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team downed the ETBU Tigers 3-2 on Thursday night at home in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowboys started early with a goal in the fifth minute off a corner from Jakob Fiol, finished in style by J.J. Sissen with a nice backflip to boot. Jack Sissen played one in close to Maxwell Winneker, who scored his third goal of the year to make it 2-0 Cowboys in the 14th minute.
Hardin-Simmons held the 2-0 lead until the second when Malik Bascombe finished at the net from a back heel touch off Jose Victor to take a 3-0 lead. The Tigers fought back late and scratched two goals to make it a game for the final minutes, but HSU held on 3-2 to win Thursday.
The Cowboys shot 27 times with 11 shots on goal while ETBU had 14 shots and five on goal. HSU led with ten corner kicks to six.
Carson Null started and won in goal for the Cowboys with three saves in the match. Anthony Lozada played keeper for the Tigers with eight saves in the game.
The Cowboys move up to 3-4-3 and 2-0 in ASC play while ETBU falls to 5-5-1 and 0-3 in the conference. The Cowboys will host the LeTourneau Yellowjackets on Saturday night at the HSU Soccer Complex starting at 7:30 p.m.
