Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped the first game of a three-game American Southwest Conference series against the ETBU Tigers 9-1 on Monday. Game two is tied 3-3 and will continue Tuesday at noon after being suspended Monday night due to lightning.
The Cowgirls fell 9-1 in game one against the Tigers. ETBU led with 11 hits to four for the Cowgirls. Faith Fernandez got Hardin-Simmons on the board in the fifth with her second homerun of the season out of left field. The Cowgirls couldn't plate anymore runs and dropped the first game to the Tigers.
Kaylen Washington started and had the loss in five innings for the Cowgirls with two strikeouts. Kelly Shackelford came in to finish with one hit allowed and a strikeout in one inning of work.
Kathryn Reed pitched the win for ETBU with one run allowed on the homerun in four hits and a strikeout in six innings.
The Cowgirls got the second game rolling and were tied 3-3 when lightning became an issue, and the game was called in the fifth inning to be concluded on Tuesday at noon before the third and final game against ETBU.
