JACKSON, Miss. – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped the opening game of three against the Belhaven Blazer in American Southwest Conference play by a score of 8-2 on Thursday evening.

The Cowgirls had a tough day at the plate with three hits in the contest. A bright spot was senior Karis Hessert's fourth-straight game with a homerun adding a solo shot in the fourth inning. The Cowgirls would add another run on the day but fall by a final of 8-2.

Hessert led the team with the RBI on the homerun. Haven Williams started in the circle and had a strikeout in five innings in the loss. Kelly Shackelford threw an inning with a strikeout to close it for the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls fall to 24-8 on the year and 15-7 in the ASC with the series finishing tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
