Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. – Hardin-Simmons' softball team lost 6-2 and 10-2 on Friday at the Belhaven Blazers in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowgirls went down early 6-0 before a Mason McCord double scored two Cowgirl runs in the fifth to make it a 6-2 final score. The Cowgirls had five hits and an error to Belhaven's eight hits and one error.
McCord led the team with two hits and two RBIs on the double. Kaylen Washington started and had the loss in three innings with a pair of strikeouts. Kylie Ruiz had two innings with one run and two Ks and Kelly Shackelford finished with a clean inning for the Cowgirls.
Hardin-Simmons came out strong with two runs in the first inning of game two with RBIs from Emma Adair and Faith Fernandez. The Blazers stormed back with ten runs, only six of them earned on a tough six-error game for the Cowgirls for a final of 10-2 Belhaven in six.
The Cowgirls had five hits to Belhaven's 13 in game two of the afternoon. Karis Hessert had a pair of hits to lead the Cowgirls.
Aubrianna Salazar pitched to start game two with four innings and three earned runs in the loss. Haven Williams finished the game with a little over an inning of work.
The Cowgirls fall to a record of 24-10 and 15-9 in the ASC. Hardin-Simmons will return home to host Concordia for two games Friday at 4 p.m. before Cowgirl Softball Senior Day on Saturday at 11:45 a.m.
