ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons was celebrating the 500th game of legendary head coach Jimmie Keeling and it did not take them long to give him a present as ZaVious Robbins took the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and HSU never looked back in a 55-10 American Southwest Conference win over Sul Ross State, Saturday at Shelton Stadium.

The Cowboys dominated the game from start to finish. Sul Ross State took its first drive 73 yards in 13 plays and Mike Van Wagner's field goal made it 7-3. HSU came right back and went 66 yards in eight plays as Justin Feaster connected with Mychal Carrillo on a 16-yard touchdown pass. Matt Fields PAT was blocked and HSU led 13-3.

After a quick Cowboy defensive stop, HSU went 80 yards in 10 plays and Steven Rockwell capped the drive with a 2-yard run. On the next SRSU possession Paul Girard forced and recovered a fumble and HSU went 36 yards in two plays with Justin Feaster scoring on a 21-yard run, Fields PAT made it 27-3.

Sul Ross State scored on their next possession on a Monte Morales quarterback sneak on fourth down. It was the last points the Lobos would get in the game.

Feaster hit ZaVious Robbins on a 32-yard touchdown pass with 2:12 to play in the first half to make the score 34-10.

Sul Ross State took the opening kickoff of the second half 73 yards in 13 plays that took seven minutes off the clock, but it ended in a turnover on downs. HSU then went 73 yards in three plays for a touchdown. Feaster hit Carrillo for 33 and 21 yards and then Feaster called his own number on a 19-yard touchdown run.

Feaster found Josh Stephens on a 28-yard touchdown pass and Taylor Byrd then hit Jonathan Price on a 8-yard touchdown pass later in the fourth quarter for his first career touchdown pass.

Robbins became the all-time leader in kickoff return yardage for the Cowboys on his 100-yard return. He now has 1,043 kickoff return yards in his career. Carrillo moved to third on the Cowboy receiving yardage list with 2,967. He had six catches for 113 yards in the game.

Feaster was 14-for-20 for 288 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran seven times for 54 yards and two more touchdowns. HSU had 545 yards of total offense in the game. Matt Warnasch had 13 tackles and Ricky Poe had 10 to lead a defense that allowed only 330 yards

HSU is now 7-1 on the year and 5-1 in ASC play. Sul Ross State fell to 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in league play. The Cowboys play at Texas Lutheran next Saturday.
