SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' football team
continued its late season roll with a 52-6 win over Texas Lutheran,
Saturday afternoon at Matador Stadium in Seguin.
The Cowboys forced seven turnovers in the game and took
advantage of several short field opportunities. HSU picked off five
passes in the game. The six points are the fewest the Cowboys have
allowed in 27 games.
After the teams exchanged field goals to tie the game at 3-3,
HSU scored a pair of quick touchdowns to end the first quarter.
Justin Feaster found Mychal Carrillo behind the defense for a
58-yard touchdown pass. On the next possession, Richard Carlisle
intercepted a pass and two plays later Feaster found ZaVious
Robbins on a 27-yard touchdown, with :14 to play in the first
quarter.
Feaster threw for two more touchdowns in the second quarter to
make it 31-6 at halftime. Feaster found Jerrad Grisham on a 3-yard
touchdown and then found Carrillo on a 15-yard touchdown.
Matt Fields scored his first touchdown of the season in the
third quarter on a 22-yard pass from Feaster. Anthony McKnight
intercepted a pass and ran it back 30 yards for a touchdown and
Isaac Camacho, scored on a 6-yard run on his first career carry. He
was playing in his hometown of Seguin.
Justin Feaster finished 19-of-23 for 276 yards and five
touchdowns. Carrillo had seven catches for 114 yards and two
touchdowns. Carrillo moved to second on the career receiving
charts.
Hardin-Simmons will close the regular season next weekend at
home against crosstown rival McMurry. HSU is now 8-1 overall and
6-1 in ASC play. TLU ended a three-game winning streak and is now
4-4 overall and 3-3 in league play.
