SHERMAN, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team won its first game of the year with a 75-62 win over the University of Dallas in the first day of the Bob Mason Classic at Austin College on Friday night.

Transfer Mark Schlott and senior Rob Yeatts each poured in 23 points for the Cowboys.

Yeatts' second 3-pointer of the game gave the Cowboys a 19-6 lead at the 10:38 mark of the first half. The Crusaders never got closer than six in the first half and HSU led 35-27 at the halftime break.

HSU had a 16-6 run in the middle of the second half to make the score 51-35 with 12:28 to play. UD battled back and cut the deficit to 55-54 with 6:28 to play.

An 8-0 run gave the Cowboys breathing room down the stretch as they led 66-56 with 3:50 to play. HSU hit four straight free throws at the end to ice the game.

The Cowboys (1-1) will play host school Austin College at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders fell to 1-2 on the young season.
