BOXSCORE
ABILENE, Texas - Rarely do you see two goals in
the span of a minute and a half when two good teams are playing,
but that was exactly the case as Abilene Christian scored two goals
in the first 2:32 of the game and held on to beat Hardin-Simmons
3-1 in women's soccer action at ACU on Tuesday afternoon.
ACU scored first on a Jackie Gentile header off a nice
combination play from ACU. Alyson Thomas served a pass to Jordan
Reese who headed to Gentile. A minute later Reese found Courtney
Wilson for a goal.
Most of the rest of the first half was played in the Cowgirl end
and they had several chances to score. Two corner serves by Becca
Gault found HSU players, but ACU was able to get them out of the
scoring box.
The Cowgirls finally got on the board right before halftime when
Gault found freshman Miranda Bersosa for her first career goal at
the 42:37 mark.
HSU had a couple of early opportunities in the second half to
tie the game, but ACU keeper Crissy Lawson and a strong defense
kept the Cowgirls out of the net. ACU added a second Wilson goal in
the 72nd minute.
The Cowgirls actually outshot ACU 14-13 and had nine corners to
one for ACU, but could not overcome the quick start.
HSU (1-2-2) opens American Southwest Conference play on Friday
at the HSU Soccer Complex against LeTourneau at 2 p.m. ACU
improved to 4-2-1 on the year.
