ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team defeated Division I Prairie View A&M and lost to Abilene Christian, 9-0, in its opening weekend of play at the ACU Tennis Center.

The Cowgirls split three singles matches and won two of three doubles to win the match. HSU won by default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Lisa Mertz and Brittany Brazell won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

Mertz also won her singles match as did Morgan Ranier.

Against ACU the Cowgirls did not win a set and Jennifer Chueng and Diane Crouch had the closest match in an 8-5 loss at No. 2 doubles.

HSU is 1-1 on the young season.
