CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team won both matches on its California Spring Break trip, defeating both Claremont Mudd-Scripps and Occidental College by scores of 5-4.

On Sunday afternoon, the Cowgirls beat CMS to push its winning streak to six matches. CMS had just beaten No. 24 UC-Santa Cruz, 8-1 the day before. The two wins should get the Cowgirls into the national rankings when they are released later this month.

Jennifer Cheung continued her hot play with another win at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (2), 6-3. Morgan Ranier earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles and Danielle Cochran won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

HSU won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Chueng and Lauren Jay each came from a set down to win their singles matches as HSU to propel HSU past Occidental College, 5-4.

The Cowgirls won all three doubles matches to start the dual, but the Cowgirls lost the first set of all six singles matches. Lisa Metrz at No. 1, Jay at No. 4 and Chueng at No. 5 all won second sets to force their matches to a third set.

HSU lost in straight sets at No. 2, 3 and 6 singles. Mertz lost the third set at No. 1, but Jay defeated Taylor Kapland 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Chueng defeated Briana Cartwright 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to give the Cowgirls the win.

The Cowgirls are now 6-1 on the season. HSU is off until March 20^, when it plays at Howard Payne.
