Box Score ABILENE, Texas — Playing in front of its home crowd for the first time since winning the NCAA title last December, the Hardin-Simmons women's soccer team shutout No. 12 California Lutheran, 2-0, on Saturday evening at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The win was the 200th of the career of HSU head coach Marcus Wood.
"It was a nice win," said Wood. "Cal Lutheran is a very good team and they are a team that we could see again in the NCAA Tournament. I was proud of the way we played and Rebecca Roth and our defense backline were special.
It looked like the teams would head into halftime scoreless, but Austin Ricker found a ball loose in the box and hammered home her second goal of the season at the 41:36.
HSU wasted no time getting on the board in the second half when Katie Kuykendall served a perfect corner to Courtney Cramer, who buried it at the 47:50 mark to make it 2-0.
The game was evenly played and CLU actually outshot the Cowgirls 14-13 and 8-6 on goal.
Rebecca Roth in goal was the difference. The all-American senior keeper had eight saves in the shutout win.
The Cowgirls are now 2-1 on the year and will host Concordia on Friday in the American Southwest Conference opener.
