Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons dropped a pair of one-run games to Concordia, 5-4 and 3-2, on Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at Ellis Field.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning of the first game.
Blair Wallace had an RBI single in the first inning and Laine Strickland had a bases loaded walk. The third run scored on a passed ball. Julia Bradley had an RBI single for the Cowgirls in the second inning.
Concordia scored on a RBI double in the third. In the fifth CTX scored four times in the fifth inning. Jessica Parish had an RBI double, Alexis Lynn had an RBI single and Alex Smith had a two-run single.
HSU threatened in the seventh inning to tie the game. Wallace led off with a walk and Namey singled. Lauren Hassell pinch ran for Wallace and was forced out at third on a Julia Bradley fielder's choice. Namey moved to third and Bradley to second on a Laine Strickland groundout. Teylor Schiefelbein, who had come on earlier in the inning got a ground out to end the game and earn her first save of the year.
Namey and Shelby McIntyre had two hits each for the Cowgirls and Erin Duhon led Concordia with two hits.
Wallace (11-6) took the loss for the Cowgirls allowing five runs on six hits. Kat Moreno started for Concordia and went six innings to earn the win. She scattered six hits and allowed three earned runs.
In the second game, Concordia scored single runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings. Lauren Vansickle had an RBI double in the second and she had an RBI single in the fourth and Meghan Ferrell had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
HSU put up a seventh-inning rally. Mac Clay singled and moved to second on an Amy Meyer groundout. Wallace walked and Taylor Namey singled to load the bases. Molly Kimball had an RBI single to left. Carley Willis then followed with an RBI single to left to make it 3-2, but Schiefelbein got a pair of pop ups to end the game.
Wallace, Willis and McIntyre had two hits each for HSU. Duhon, Parish, Kassey Shaw and Vansickle had two hits each for Concordia.
Schiefelbein scattered nine hits in the complete-game win to move to 8-8. Sarah Shurbet allowed two earned runs on 10 hits in the complete game with five strikeouts to fall to 9-6 overall.
The Cowgirls are now 20-12 on the year and 13-5 in ASC play. Concordia improved to 14-16 overall and to 8-10 in league play. HSU will celebrate senior day with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
