Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas — Concordia finished off a four-game sweep over the Hardin-Simmons softball team with a pair of American Southwest Conference wins on Saturday afternoon at Ellis Field in Abilene. Concordia won the first game 8-2 and won the nightcap 6-0.
In the first game, the Cowgirls fell behind early. Concordia had an RBI double by Jessica Parrish in the second and Candace Velasquez walked with the bases loaded in the third inning. Ashley Boccaccio was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth and Laura Abellanida and Alex Smith had back-to-back run-scoring doubles in the sixth.
The Tornados put the game away with two runs in the seventh on a Meghan Farrell sacrifice fly and a Parish RBI triple.
Taylor Namey had a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie Sadye Hill for the HSU career home run record with 32. Julia Bradley drove in the other HSU run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
Kat Moreno went the distance for Concordia to improve to 9-8. She scattered six hits and struck out seven. Blair Wallace (11-7) went five and one-third innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits. Brittany Acosta worked the final inning and two-thirds for HSU.
Jessica Parrish had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Concordia. Namey had three hits for HSU.
In the second game Concordia scored a single run in the first on a Parrish double and then Alexis Lynn hit a grand slam in the fifth inning. Parrish added an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Taylor Schiefelbein went the distance to earn the win for Concordia. She allowed just five hits on the day. Sarah Shurbet took the loss to fall to 9-7 on the year. She allowed six runs.
Lynn, Parrish and Boccaccio each had two hits for Concordia and five different Cowgirls had a hit.
The games were the final home games for HSU seniors Kelsey Evans, Amy Meyer, Taylor Namey, Sarah Shurbet, Blair Wallace, Laine Strickland and Bailey Watkins.
HSU is now 20-14 on the year and 13-7 in ASC action. Concordia improved to 16-16 overall and to 10-10 in conference play. HSU closes the regular season at Howard Payne next weekend.
