Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team defeated East Texas Baptist 7-2 in a game that was shortened to 70 minutes by rainy conditions.
HSU jumped out early when
Kami Jones scored the first of her three goals in the fourth minutes.
Kenne Kessler scored in the 11
th minute and then Jones and Kessler alternated goals and it was 4-0 18:33 into the match.
Jones now has 19 goals on the season and Kessler has 15 scores.
Jordan Lara scored in the 21
st minute and Jones scored again at 30:33. The Cowgirl starters left the game a couple of minutes later and the Cowgirls' bench finished up the game.
The teams agreed to a shortened halftime, but six minutes into the second half lightning joined the already heavy rain. The game was delayed almost two hours. When the teams came back they played 19 more minutes and called the game complete at the 70-minute mark.
Katie Lane picked up a goal for the Cowgirls in the 56
th minute and Stephanie Castillo had a pair of goals for the Tigers in the 58
th and 63
rd minutes.
HSU played all four goalkeepers in the game.
Lexi Stinson started and got the win and
Casey Carrillo and Caitlin Christansen each played in the first half. Senior
Abby Blunt got the second half.
The Cowgirls are now 13-2-1 on the year and 8-1 in conference play and will host LeTourneau in the regular-season finale for senior day at 1 p.m. Saturday. HSU will honor six seniors before the game – Blunt, Stinson,
Madi Jo Witherspoon,
Shannon Byrd,
Sarah Phillips and
Jacqueline Thorman.
