TYLER, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis saw its season come to a close with a 5-1 loss to East Texas Baptist in the American Southwest Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler.
ETBU took the lead 2-1 after doubles.
Shayne Cook and
Michaela Ellison won a 9-7 match at No. 2 for the Cowgirls win. No. 1 and No. 3 both lost 8-0.
The Tigers won quickly at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1 and needed only two more wins to clinch the match. Kayla Casey beat Cook 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Ellison lost 6-2, 7-5 to Tiffany Stankiewicz at No. 2 singles.
HSU had split sets at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles when the match was determined.
The Cowgirls finished the season with a record of 13-6 and the entire team returns for 2017. ETBU improved to 14-4 and will look for its first ASC title on Saturday.
