Jones' Early Goal Lifts Cowgirls By CMS

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kami Jones scored a goal one minute into the game and the Hardin-Simmons defense made it hold up in a 1-0 win over Claremont Mudd Scripps on Sunday afternoon at Paul McGinlay Field in San Antonio.

Jones took a long ball in traffic over the top of two defenders and headed it to herself as a third defender came over. She beat them to the inside and ripped it past CMS goalkeeper Kelly McConnell. It was her second goal of the season and 31st of her career.

The Cowgirls had most of the run of play in the first half outshooting CMS 8-2, but the Athenas  put on an assault in the second half outshooting HSU 8-2. Both team finished with 10 shots in the game and HSU had a slim 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Caitlin Christiansen recorded the shutout in goal with two saves.

The Cowgirls are now 3-1 on the year and Claremont Mudd Scripps fell to 2-3 on the year. HSU returns home Friday for a 2 p.m. game against ASC rival Texas-Tyler in the conference opener.
