ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team continued its strong late-season play with a 7-2 win over Concordia in American Southwest Conference action at the Streich Tennis Center.
Michaela Ellison and Abigail Kendall won a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles and Maddie Hammond and Kyra Mobley won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles to give HSU a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
HSU picked up wins in five of the six singles matches. Ellison won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Mobley won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Maddie Hammond won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 and Abigail Kendall fought a tough three-setter for a 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 win and Grace Masonheimer added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
HSU is now 3-14 overall and 3-1 in league play. Concordia fell to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. HSU will host senior day on Saturday for Ellison prior to the 11 a.m. match with Mary Hardin-Baylor.
