Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team defeated Sul Ross State 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday night at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Senior Madelyn Dowell had two goals on the day for the Cowgirls. Her first was from the top of the box after Rachel Bean played a ball in. Dowell maneuvered a couple Lobos and punched in the first goal in the fourth minute of the game.
It was a tight ball game until the Cowgirls earned a penalty kick from a good run by Skyler Devore. Dowell took the penalty and netted it on the right corner. Her second goal of the night got the Cowgirls up 2-0 in the 76th minute.
The Cowgirls topped it off in the 84th minute with a cross from freshman Caroline Burrow which was headed in by fellow freshman Julie Atlason, her second goal of the season, making it a 3-0 Cowgirl victory.
The Cowgirl team put up 27 shots landing 13 on goal while Sul Ross had seven shots with four in the frame. The Cowgirls led with seven corner kicks to none for the Lobos.
Haley Foley kept it perfect on the night with four saves for HSU in goal. Lobo keeper Alitzel Ybarra had ten saves in the game.
The Cowgirls improve to 9-2 and 6-0 in the ASC while Sul Ross falls to 1-7 and 0-6 on the season. The Cowgirls will host Howard Payne on Saturday at 5 p.m. for the Cowgirl Soccer Senior Night which will be held right before kickoff.
