Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team won 1-0 over Howard Payne on Saturday in ASC play thanks to a Madelyn Dowell highlight-reel goal near the end of the game.
The Cowgirls had their hands full with the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets for 81 minutes until a beat HPU defender was forced to foul from about 30 yards out.
Senior Dowell lined the ball up for an absolute rocket over the Yellow Jacket keeper's outstretched arm for the goal in the corner of the net to seal the win for the Cowgirls in the 82nd minute.
The Cowgirls put up 20 shots and nine on frame and scored off the free kick by Dowell. Howard Payne managed seven shots with three on goal in the contest. The Cowgirls had eight corner kicks to one for the Yellow Jackets.
Haley Foley had another flawless night in goal with three saves in the shutout win. Howard Payne goalie Delaney Castor also had an outstanding performance with eight saves in the match.
The Cowgirl team honored six seniors in the final regular season home game on Grape Street. The six Cowgirl seniors were Brenna Ebbinghaus, Michaela Sabrsula, Mackensie Moreno, Randie Dennison, Rachel Bean, and tonight's hero Madelyn Dowell.
The Cowgirls improve to a record of 10-2 and 7-0 in conference play. Howard Payne falls to 8-5-1 and 3-3-1 in the ASC. The Cowgirls will travel to play at Concordia on Thursday next week at 5 p.m.
