Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' eighth-ranked football team dominated East Texas Baptist, 34-0, on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at Ornelas Stadium in Marshall.
It was the third shutout of the season for the Cowboy defense and the second straight over East Texas Baptist.
The Cowboys forced three turnovers and blocked a field goal in the first half and jumped to a 21-0 halftime lead.
HSU jumped on the board first in the first quarter when Kyle Jones hit Colton Marshall on a 12-yard touchdown pass to cap a 10-play, 43-yard drive.
Jones then hit Jalen Crawford for a 56-yard touchdown at the end of the first quarter. HSU made it 21-0 with :35 to play in the first half when Jones hit Kai Brinkerhoff for a 4-yard touchdown.
The two teams played a scoreless third quarter and Cale Nanny's 34-yard punt return on the final play of the third quarter set the Cowboys up with a short field to start the fourth quarter. HSU went 31 yards in seven plays and Myles Featherston capped it with a 4-yard touchdown run.
After a short ETBU punt, the Cowboys drove the short field again and Featherston capped it off with his second touchdown of the game, a 7-yarder.
HSU had 330 yards of offense in the contest and held ETBU to 175.
The Cowboys are now 5-1 on the year and 4-1 in ASC play. East Texas Baptist fell to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in league play. HSU will be home next week for a 1 p.m. game against Southwestern as part of Homecoming weekend.
