Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Southwestern University Pirates on the road in a tight game on Saturday night.
The Cowgirls came out of the gate firing with the majority of control in the contest.
In the 36th minute, a Pirate ball in pinballed its way off the post and directly in front of the goal line, banking away from the diving Cowgirl keeper. The only clearance attempt was from a Cowgirl defender, needing a full-speed 180 that wasn't in the cards for the black shirts and gave Southwestern a 1-0 lead.
The Cowgirls continued to pepper the Pirate defense, putting up 18 total shots with five on frame. A handful of incredible shot deflections from the Pirate defense and five saves from Southwestern keeper Johnna Campbell staved off the Cowgirl attack and held on to win 1-0 on the night.
The Cowgirls led with 18 shots and five on goal while Southwestern netted four total shots and two on the frame. Hardin-Simmons gained five corner kicks on the night to just one for the Pirates.
Haley Foley started in goal and had two saves in the loss. Campbell had five great saves for Southwestern to preserve the win.
The Cowgirls fall to 1-2 and Southwestern moves to 5-0 on the year. The Hardin-Simmons' women will return to Grape Street to host Arlington Baptist Friday night followed by Wisconsin Stevens Point on Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
