ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team swept the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets and the Austin College Kangaroos at the Streich Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Cowgirls took down Howard Payne 9-0 to start the year in American Southwest Conference play.
Laurel Coelman and Lauren Schaffer took care of the No. 1 doubles team of Nave and Sprayberry from Howard Payne 8-1.
Priscilla Schimming and Jonnah Smooth won 8-1 in the two doubles match against Johnson and Hernandez while Skylar Rust and Brianne Dumas went up 8-1 over Jonescue and Sullivan at No. 3.
Coleman had the Cowgirl win 6-3, 6-0 in the first singles match against Nave. Schaeffer had a sweep of Sprayberry 6-0, 6-0, in two singles.
Schimming went for the win in three singles 6-2, 6-1 against Jonescue and Landry Laywel swept the No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-0 facing Johnson.
Smith went 6-1, 6-2 at five singles to beat Hernandez and Rust had a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sullivan at No. 6 to lock up the Cowgirl sweep.
The Cowgirls played Austin College in the afternoon for another 9-0 sweep for Hardin-Simmons on the day.
Coleman and Schaeffer went up 8-2 in one doubles with Schimming and Smith getting the 8-0 sweep at two.
Coleman won 7-5, 6-2 at one singles and Schaeffer went 6-0, 7-6 at No. 2. Schimming had a clean sweep 6-0, 6-0 at three singles along with Laywell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Smith also swept the five singles 6-0, 6-0 over Austin College.
The Cowgirls benefited from two Kangaroo defaults in three doubles and six singles to take it to 9-0 on the day.
The Cowgirls improve to 6-6 on the season with two wins today and will travel to Concordia in Round Rock next Saturday at 2 p.m.
