SAN ANGELO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team traveled down to take on the No. 19 ranked Division II program at Angelo State on Saturday, falling 7-0 to the Rams.
The Cowgirls have opened with two of the best opponents in DIII and DII in Trinity and Angelo State, both ranked nationally. Hardin-Simmons will return to play at the Streich Tennis Center next weekend against A&M Texarkana and Schreiner.
Jacy Smith and Lauren Schaeffer led doubles at No. 1 dropping 6-1. Priscilla Schimming and Skylar Rust played at two doubles with the team of Laurel Coleman and Jonnah Smith playing three doubles, both going down 6-2.
Jacy Smith played at No. 1 singles, finishing 6-1, 6-3 to Angelo State. Coleman had No. 2 singles for the Cowgirls, going down 6-1, 6-0.
Schaffer played the No. 3 singled in a 6-1, 6-4 win for the Rams and Rust was forced to retire with an injury at No. 4 singles for HSU.
Schimming went 6-4, 6-2 to ASU in No. 5 singles. Jonnah Smith contended for the Cowgirls at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-3 to Angelo State.
Hardin-Simmons will host A&M Texarkana Friday at 2 p.m. in Abilene at the Streich Tennis Center.
