Cowgirls Add to Win Column with Two Against Sul Ross

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team won two games against the Sul Ross State Lobos, 8-0 and 7-5, on Friday night at Ellis Field in American Southwest Conference play.

The Cowgirls took care of game one in short order with an 8-0 defeat of Sul Ross. Haven Williams started on the mound and allowed just three hits in six innings in the win.

The Cowgirls scored on an error in the second and Lindsey Ratcliffe drove in another run to make it 2-0.

Ratcliffe went yard for her first Cowgirl homerun to score three more in the fourth inning to push the lead to 5-0 for Hardin-Simmons.

Haley Henson added a sac fly and Ella Salinas drove in another Cowgirl run before scoring off another error and taking the game 8-0 over the Lobos in the sixth inning.

The Cowgirls had ten hits to three for Sul Ross, led by Salinas, Ashley Easley, and Ratcliffe with two hits each. Ratcliffe led the Cowgirls with four RBIs in game one.

The Lobos of Sul Ross came out swinging in game two and hit a homerun to score two in the first inning to take the lead. The Cowgirls would tie the game in the first at 2-2.

Salinas drove in two runs for HSU in the first to tie the game. Hardin-Simmons scored off a throwing error to take the lead 3-2 in the fifth before Alex Guillory doubled to score a run and Kaylen Washington drove in two more to make it 6-2 Cowgirls in the fifth inning.

Guillory had another RBI to insure the lead to 7-2 in the sixth, which would prove important as the Lobos scratched out three runs in the final inning. The Cowgirls would wrap things up on defense with a 7-5 win.

Washington started and threw six innings with three hits and a strikeout. Summer Simmons finished the game with an inning for the Cowgirls.

Five Cowgirls had multi-hit games in game two, with Washington leading the pack with three hits including two doubles. Kristen McMillan, Salinas, and Ratcliffe each had two. Guillory celebrated her birthday with a double and a single with two RBIs in the game. Salinas and Washington had two RBIs each as well.

The Cowgirls improve to 15-2 on the season and will host Sul Ross for the third and final game of the ASC series on Saturday at 12 noon at Ellis Field.
