ROUND ROCK, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader with the Concordia Tornados, taking game one 6-4 and dropping game two 9-3 on Friday night.

Haven Williams started game one and got out of a tough first inning to hold on for the win in seven with five strikeouts in the circle.

Madison Mayhew drove in two runs to start the Cowgirl day in the first before the Tornados answered with four runs to make it 4-2.

Lindsey Ratcliffe got the Cowgirls back even with two RBIs in the third and Brittanie Henry drove in the run to take the lead 5-4 Cowgirls in the third.

Mayhew added an RBI double to extend the lead in the seventh and the Cowgirl defense and Williams finished the win. 

The Cowgirls had ten hits to nine for Concordia in game one and the Tornados had two errors. Mayhew led all batters with three hits and three RBIs.

Concordia was hot early in game two and held all the way for the win 9-3. The Cowgirls notched seven hits to eight for Concordia and both teams had a pair of errors.

Ratcliffe and Haley Henson had two hits each in game two and Ella Salinas, Alex Guillory, and Ratcliffe each had an RBI for Hardin-Simmons. Kaylen Washington started and had the loss for the Cowgirls and Kylie Ruiz pitched the final three innings for HSU.

The Cowgirls head into the rubber match at 17-3 and now 7-1 in the ASC with Concordia moving to 13-7 and 4-4 in the conference. The final game will begin at 12 noon on Saturday at the Tornado softball field.
