Box Score ROUND ROCK, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team came back to win 3-2 in eight innings against the Concordia Tornados to take the American Southwest Conference series on the road.
The Tornados put together a pair of runs to lead 2-0 in the third inning. The Concordia defense held the Cowgirls scoreless until the sixth inning.
Haley Henson bunted her way on to first where Honor Knott pinch ran and stole second. Ella Salinas doubled home the first Cowgirl run to make it 2-1 in the sixth inning.
Entering the seventh inning, the Cowgirls needed one run to tie and quickly were down to their last out. Jenna Sepeda pinch hit a triple with two outs for Hardin-Simmons and Brittanie Henry singled to tie the game at 2-2 to keep the Cowgirls alive.
The game went to the eighth inning and Kristen McMillan led off with a double for HSU. Salinas got another RBI to take the lead 3-2 and the Cowgirls held Concordia off the board for the win to clinch the ASC series on the road.
The Cowgirl defense only allowed one base runner in the final three innings in the win, and she was thrown out trying to steal third by Alex Guillory in the sixth inning.
Hardin-Simmons had ten hits in the game to just two for Concordia. Aubrianna Salazar had four strikeouts in the start and no earned runs while Kylie Ruiz allowed just two hits in the final five innings to get the win with the late runs.
Henson and Salinas each had two hits in the contest. Salinas added two RBIs, one to take the lead, and Henry had the RBI single to tie the game in the seventh.
The Cowgirls improve to 18-3 and 8-1 in the ASC while Concordia falls to 13-8 and 4-5 in conference play. The Cowgirls will return to Ellis Field in Abilene to host Howard Payne for an ASC series starting Friday at 3 p.m.
