Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team traveled to play the St. John Fisher Cardinals at ETBU on Wednesday, splitting two games playing in Marshall.
The Cowgirls took the first game 7-5 with the help of a big opening inning. Haley Henson doubled home three RBIs for the Cowgirls to clear the bases and take the early lead. Madi Hubbard doubled to send Henson home for a 4-0 Cowgirl lead.
The Cardinals put pressure on with offense to make it a 4-3 game before the Cowgirls scored on an error to make it 5-3 in the third inning. St. John Fisher was able to tie the game at 5-5 heading into the final inning.
Hardin-Simmons scored on another error and Henson added her fourth RBI of the game with another double to clinch the win in the seventh 7-5 Cowgirls.
Henson led all hitters with two doubles and four RBIs for HSU. Kaylen Washington started the game for the Cowgirls and threw four innings with a strikeout. Kylie Ruiz and Haven Williams finished the game with over an inning each, both with a strikeout and Williams picking up the win with the late runs.
The Cowgirls dropped just their second game of the season to the Cardinals 3-2 to wrap up the road trip to Marshall. Hardin-Simmons out-hit St. John Fisher nine to five but were plagued by three unearned runs on three errors in the infield.
Henson added another double for one of three hits to lead her team again in game two. Ella Salinas and Hubbard each had an RBI for the Cowgirls.
Williams started and threw two innings with two strikeouts in the loss. Aubrianna Salazar came in to throw four innings and had four strikeouts to finish the game.
The Cowgirls move to 13-2 on the season and will return to Ellis Field in Abilene to host Sul Ross State in a three-game ASC series beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
