CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team has dropped the first three matches of its spring break California trip, falling 8-1 to California Institute of Technology, 7-2 to No. 10 Case Western Reserve and 9-0 to No. 6 Claremont Mudd Scripps.
Against Caltech on Saturday evening,
Andrew Eurek picked up the only for the Cowboys with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 6 singles.
Alex Hunt dropped a tough 7-6, 7-6 match at No. 1 singles and
Ben Gutierrez lost a three-setter at No. 5, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9.
On Sunday morning, the Cowboys had a strong showing against No. 10 Case Western Reserve. Hunt had another solid match picking up a win 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with Eurek for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles.
On Sunday afternoon, against No. 6 CMS the Cowboys fell 9-0. The Stags proved worthy of their high ranking. Eurek and Hunt lost 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and the other two lost 8-0. In singles,
Griffin Weinkam lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 and
Chandler Livingston lost 6-1, 6-3 and no one else won more than two games in straight set losses.
Hunt and Eurek have been selected as players of the day.
HSU is 5-6 on the year and Caltech is now 2-3, Case Western improved to 7-2 and Claremont Mudd Scripps is 6-0. The Cowboys will play Chapman on Monday at 3 p.m.
