LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 5-3 loss to Concordia in the American Southwest Conference Tournament in Longview on Friday.

The Cowboys started off well in doubles with Alex Hunt and Nathaniel Schoendorf won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and Griffin Weinkam and Holt Fields won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Josh Lopez and Chris Beavers dropped a tough 9-8 match at No. 3 doubles.

Concordia came out strong in singles and won at No. 1, 2 and 3 in straight sets to take a 4-2 lead. Holt Fields won at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-4 to make the match 4-3.

The No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches both went to a first-set tiebreaker. Evan Pena beat Josh Lopez at No. 5 and Keenan Nash won at No. 6. Pena finished off the match with a 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Nash was tied at one set each at No. 6 when the match was completed.

The Cowboys conclude the year with a record of 9-9. Concordia improved to 14-2 and the Tornados will play for the ASC Championship on Saturday.

It was the final match for the three Cowboy seniors – Hunt, Weinkam and Nash.
