THOUSAND OAKS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team lost a back-and-forth duals match against Cal Lutheran 5-4, the No. 32 ranked team in the ITAs, on Monday night in California.
The Cowboys had one of the tightest contests we've seen in a duals match in a long time, with four of the nine matches going to three sets, and two tiebreaker sets on the day.
The Cowboys took a 2-1 lead in doubles, with Alex Pavkovich and Desmond O'Shea at No. 1 winning 8-5 and Nathaniel Schoendorf and James Moore going up 8-4 in No. 2 doubles.
Davyn Williford and Josh Lopez went down in a close match, 6-8 in No. 3 doubles.
Pavkovich had the most convincing win for the Cowboys in the No. 1 singles spot 6-1, 6-2. Schoendorf had a tough match in No. 2 singles, dropping 6-7 (4-10), 6-2, 3-6.
Moore got another Cowboy victory at No. 3 in three sets, 7-5, 6-7(4-10), 6-3. O'Shea dropped yet another tight match, 4-6, 6-1, 4-6.
Williford went down 4-6, 2-6 at No. 5 singles and Lopez had a three-set defeat 3-6, 6-4, 0-6 in the No. 6 singles spot for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys take the close loss 5-4 to the second ranked team on the weekend and move to 2-5 after the trip. The Cowboy tennis team will be back at the Streich Tennis Center in Abilene to take on LeTourneau on March 22nd with matches beginning at 3 p.m.
