ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team swept Howard Payne on Saturday morning and swept Austin College in the afternoon at the Streich Tennis Center.
The win over Howard Payne was the American Southwest Conference opener for the Cowboys.
Alex Pavkovich and Desmond O'Shea defeated the No. 1 doubles team of Green and Hunter 8-1 to start the Cowboy day.
Davyn Williford and Josh Lopex went up 8-4 in two doubles against Gates and Knight of HPU. Zach Fowler and Chris Beavers took down Fernandez and Ferree 8-4 in the third doubles match.
Pavkovich took down Hunter 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Nathaniel Schoendorf went for the clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Gates at No. 2.
O'Shea had a 6-1, 6-3 win over Green at three and Williford won 6-3, 6-2 against Knight at No. 4.
Lopez took won at five singles 6-0, 6-2 facing Fernandez and Fowler completed the Cowboy sweep with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Ferree.
Pavkovich and O'Shea took down the No. 1 doubles team of Austin College 8-2. Williford and Lopez went 8-1 over the No. 2 doubles team and Beavers and Fowler swept the No. 3 doubles 8-0.
Pavkovich, O'Shea, and Fowler each swept their singles matches against Austin 6-0, 6-0 at one, two, and four singles respectively.
Williford won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 while Beavers went up 6-3, 6-1 in five singles and Dylan Haught took the Cowboy win in six singles, 6-3, 6-2.
With two wins today, the Cowboys are 5-6 and look forward to a trip to Concordia to take on the Tornados next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Round Rock.
