RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team came up short in the American Southwest Conference Championship 5-4 against the Concordia Tornados on Saturday.
Cowboys James Moore and Davyn Williford were each named to the ASC All-Tournament team. They each went undefeated in the tournament in singles.
Moore and Desmond O'Shea took the second doubles match 8-6 for the Cowboys, with HSU trailing 2-1 after doubles.
The Cowboys rallied and had a 4-3 lead with wins from three different singles. Moore went up 7-6 (11-9), 6-1 in No. 3 singles while Williford won a split set at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Justus Petersilie got the Cowboy win at No. 6 singles 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.
The Cowboys stretched two more singles matches into split sets and dropped the pair in tiebreakers 7-6 (7-5) in heartbreaking fashion to fall 5-4 to Concordia in the ASC Championship.
The Cowboys end the season with a record of 12-7 with another trip to the ASC Championship match.
