SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team played Saturday at the ITA Regional hosted by Trinity University with Jose Torrez advancing to the consolation final.
 
Payne Smith continued in the A consolation bracket and lost to Jared Burton (Southwestern) 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinal.
 
Jose Torrez went into the B consolation bracket and won 6-0, 6-0 over John Lewis (LETU) before a bye round. Torrez continued with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the quarterfinal over Gabriel Kenney-McCollough (Schreiner) and later defeated Jake Riggs 6-2, 7-5 (CTX) to advance to the final to be played on Sunday.
 
The Cowboy doubles teams continued after wins in the first round of the B bracket. Torrez and Jordan Oberbillig went down 8-6 to Moret and Rajesh (Southwestern).
 
Brandon Curiel and Jameson Sorrell paired up for a Cowboy win 8-5 in the second round over Ferree and Gates (HPU) before dropping the quarterfinal 8-6 to Scott and Blattner (UMHB).
 
The Cowboys will finish with Torrez playing in the B bracket singles consolation on Sunday at Trinity.
