Shortly after entering HSU in 1947, World War II veteran George Hine was named Sports Information Director, a position he held through 1957.  A four-time president of the Border Conference Press Assn., Hine received national acclaim for design and layout excellence. In 1949 his work was honored by Resolution of the Texas Legislature. He was elected to the NAIA Sports Hall of Fame in 1974 for his significant contributions to the field of sports journalism. In 1982, while serving as Assistant to the President of Houston Baptist Univ., Hine was honored by the College Sports Information Directors Assn. for serving over 25 years in the profession. He was posthumously inducted into the Howard Payne University Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
