Despite attending HSU before there was a volleyball program, Jan Briggs had an outstanding 40-year career as a volleyball coach. She started the volleyball programs in Midland, Richardson, and Duncanville. Among her winning teams were a 4A State Champion, a 5A State Champion, and a Texas team that won the National AAU Junior Olympic Volleyball Tournament. Briggs’ many honors include being named Texas Girls Coaches Association Coach of the Year, District Coach of the Year, All Star Coach, UIL Representative to the National Federation Rules Committee, Kellogg Coach of the Year, Baden Coach of the Year, and she was inducted into the Texas Girls Coaching Association Hall of Fame. She was also the President of the Texas Volleyball Coaches Association and inducted into the Duncanville ISD Athletic Hall of Honor.
